English Rose

(Harry Flowers)

She lives with her mum on Juliet Street

She works in a library

Remembers the summer of '76

Like it was yesterday

The lawn turned brown, the sun fell down

Withered the flowers

All in a row, bending low

As the afternoon wore on

And as the afternoon wore on

Clouds gathered in

In the library gloom she hums a tune

From the old days

Can you recall the name of the girl

Who sang like a sparrow?

She played on her own in the twilight glow

Of a fading Empire's dream

And as the rain settled in

Shadows moved around

In the library gloom she hums a tune

From the olden days

They sold the old house on Juliet Street

For an untold sum

They knocked it down and on the waste ground

Weeds grow

All in a row
